John Forrest was a renowned Australian explorer and politician who served as the first premier of Western Australia from 1890 to 1901. He led several expeditions into the Australian interior, including the first land crossing from Perth to Adelaide across the Nullarbor Plain. Forrest's cautious and well-planned approach to exploration earned him the Patron's Medal of the Royal Geographical Society in 1876. He later transitioned into politics, becoming a long-serving cabinet minister in federal politics.
